One of our qualified Emotional Logic Coaches, Laura Bird, has been working at Exeter College with the Unaccompanied Asylum Seekers aged 17 and 18 years since November 2025. During this time she has met with 19 students and talked them through the Emotional Logic model of understanding emotions. They have explored what emotions are useful for and how and to identify the losses they are or have experienced, with a plan to either bargain to win a loss back or accept the loss and move on.
Laura shared that she has been surprised at the ease with which each of the students have been able to use the Emotional Logic tools to communicate and express how they are feeling despite there being a language barrier. It has been amazing to witness those who have been through so much heartache find hope and peace by using the Emotional Logic model.
Here are some quotes from those attending the sessions:
“Now life is a lot better as I have a better way of looking at things and not focus so much on the things that have happened in the past. I can feel better about where I am now and look to the future with hope.”
“Now I will try and sort out problems rather than just feel sad and not do anything to sort them out.”
“I have changed how I have been thinking about how to solve emotional problems. This has helped me to not get stuck in one problem or situation for a long time.”
“This has helped me to explain my emotions and feelings better and I can use the SS cards to do this.”
“Things with my family have not changed but things in my daily life has become better as I have been able to talk about the problems I was going through and try to sort them out. I have been able to sleep better and not stay awake worrying as much as I used to. I am not as tired during the day in class.”
“This has helped me to talk to my friend more about my feelings and this has helped me to replace bad memories with good ones that are happening now and have hope for a good future.”
“Learning about Emotional Logic has helped me to understand about how I feel about things and I feel happier now.”
“This has been helpful because I have now listed the people who I can go to and ask for help and support. This has reminded me that I do not need to struggle on my own. I now feel more peaceful and happy since I have been learning emotional logic and I have been able to be more respectful to other people when I am upset with them.”
